Nanhai, located in the west of Guangzhou city, makes good use of both international and domestic markets and resources, especially Dali, is one of the most-gathered regions of domestic and import recycling metal industry which has had a centuries-old history of recycling metal industry and formed a perfect industrial chain for collecting, sorting, smelting and further processing the scrap metals. Nanhai, it imported used electric equipments and used electric wires & cables account for around 60% of the total scrap market, the remaining 40% are recycled inside China and then sold to other regions like Zhejiang after collection and separation. There are 1700 enterprises and 30000 employees engaging in the field of scrap metal, reaching an annual transaction volume of 500,000 tons and trading volume up to 5 billion yuan. Nanhai Dali is awarded as "Chinese Noted Non-ferrous Metal Town" as well as "China's Base of Recycling Metals Logistic & Process Industry" by China Non-ferrous Metal Industry Association. According to customs statistics, in 2003, Dali imported 500,000 tons of scrap metals including 100,000 tons of copper scrap, 200,000 tons of aluminum scrap, 50,000 tons of stainless steel scrap, 200,000 tons of plastic scrap; and 500,000 tons of scrap metals and leftover materials are recycled inside China. In addition, there are approximately 1 million tons of scrap metal enter into Dali from other regions for trading each year. Dali has become a well-known distributing center for scrap metal both at home and abroad.
